O “eu” é uma mera consciência que acompanha todos os conceitos. Com ela “não se representa nada mais do que um sujeito transcendental dos pensamentos”. A “consciência não é em si tanto uma representação... mas uma forma dela em geral”. O “eu penso” é “a forma da percepção inerente a toda experiência e que a precede”.

Kant apreende, com razão, o conteúdo fenomênico do “eu” na expressão “eu penso” ou, se for também considerada a inclusão (869) da “pessoa prática” na “inteligência”, como “eu ajo”. O dizer-eu, no sentido de Kant, deve ser apreendido como dizer-“eu-penso”. Kant procura fixar o conteúdo fenomênico do eu como res cogitans. Se aí denomina esse eu de “sujeito lógico”, isto não significa que o eu em geral seja um mero conceito obtido por caminhos lógicos. O eu é, ao contrário, o sujeito do comportamento lógico, do ligar. O “eu penso” significa: eu ligo. Todo ligar é um “eu ligo”. Em todo reunir e relacionar há já sempre o eu — υποκείμενον. Por isso, o sujeito “consciência em si” não é uma representação , mas, ao contrário, a “forma” da representação. Isto quer dizer: o eu penso não é algo representado, mas a estrutura formal do representar como tal, por cujo meio algo assim como um representado é possível. Forma da representação não significa nem um marco, nem um conceito geral, mas o que, como είδος, faz que cada representado e cada representar seja o que é. O eu, entendido como forma da representação, significa o mesmo que: ele é “sujeito lógico”.

O positivo na análise kantiana é dúplice: de um lado, no plano ôntico, Kant vê a impossibilidade de reduzir o eu a uma substância; de outro lado, mantém firme o eu como “eu penso”. Entretanto, Kant volta a entender esse eu como sujeito e isto em um sentido ontologicamente inadequado. Pois o conceito ontológico do sujeito caracteriza não o ser do-si-mesmo do eu qua si-mesmo, mas o ser-si-mesmo e a consistência de um já sempre subsistente. O eu ontologicamente determinado como sujeito significa pô-lo como um sempre (871) já subsistente. O ser do eu é entendido como realidade  da res cogitans. (p. 869, 871, 873)

Le « je » est une simple conscience qui accompagne tous les concepts. Avec lui n’est « représenté rien d’autre qu’un sujet transcendantal de la pensée ». La « conscience n’(est) en soi pas tant une représentation... qu’une forme de celle-ci en général ». Le « je pense » est « la forme de l’aperception qui est inhérente à toute expérience et la précède ».

Kant saisit à juste titre le contenu phénoménal du « je » dans l’expression « je pense » ou, si on considère en même temps l’incorporation de la « personne pratique » dans l’« intelligence », il le saisit comme « j’agis ». Dire : je doit, au sens de Kant, se prendre avec le sens de « dire : je pense ». Kant cherche à fixer le contenu phénoménal du je comme res cogitans. Si, ce faisant, il nomme ce je « sujet logique », cela ne veut pas dire pour autant que le je soit en tout et pour tout un concept obtenu par voie purement logique. Le je est, au contraire, le sujet du comportement logique, de la liaison. Le « je pense » revient à dire : je relie. Toute liaison est « je relie ». En toute compréhension et en toute mise en relation, il y a toujours déjà à la base le je — ύποκείμενον. Aussi le Sujet est-il « conscience en soi » et non représentation  il en est plutôt la « forme ». Cela veut dire : loin d’être quelque chose de représenté, le je pense est, au contraire, la structure formelle de la représentation comme telle, grâce à laquelle quelque chose comme du représenté devient seulement possible. Forme de la représentation, cela ne désigne ni un cadre ni un concept général, mais ce qui, comme είδος, amène tout représenté et toute (379) représentation à ce qu’ils sont. Le je, entendu comme forme de la représentation, revient à dire : il est « sujet logique ».

Il y a dans l’Analyse de Kant deux côtés positifs : d’une part, il voit l’impossibilité de ramener ontiquement le je à une substance; [SZ:320] de l’autre, il ne démord pas du je comme «je pense ». Toutefois, il prend encore le je comme sujet, en quoi il le prend en un sens ontologique inadéquat. Car le concept ontologique de sujet ne caractérise pas l’être-soi-même du je comme soi-même, mais comme la mêmeté et la permanence d’un étant toujours déjà là-devant. Déterminer le je ontologiquement comme sujet, c’est le poser au départ comme un étant toujours déjà là-devant. L’être du je est entendu comme réalité  de la res cogitans. (p. 379-380)

The ‘I’ is a bare consciousness, accompanying all concepts. In the ‘I’, ‘nothing more is represented than a transcendental subject of thoughts’. ‘Consciousness in itself (is) Not so much a representation ... as it is a form of representation in general.’ The ‘I think’ is ‘the form of apperception, which clings to every experience and precedes it’.

(367) Kant grasps the phenomenal content of the ‘I’ correctly in the expression ‘I think’, or — if one also pays heed to including the ‘practical person’ when one speaks of ‘intelligence’ — in the expression ‘I take action’. In Kant’s sense we must take saying “I” as saying “I think”. Kant tries to establish the phenomenal content of the “I” as res cogitans. If in doing so he calls this “I” a ‘logical subject’, that does not mean that the “I” in general is a concept obtained merely by way of logic. The “I” is rather the subject of logical behaviour, of binding together. ‘I think’ means ‘I bind together’. All binding together is an “I” bind together’. In any taking-together or relating, the “I” always underlies — the υποκείμενον. The subjectum is therefore ‘consciousness in itself’, not a representation but rather the ‘form’ of representation. That is to say, the “I think” is not something represented, but the formal structure of representing as such, and this formal structure alone makes it possible for anything to have been represented. When we speak of the “form” of representation, we have in view neither a framework nor a universal concept, but that which, as εΐδος, makes every representing and everything represented be what it is. If the “I” is understood as the form of representation, this amounts to saying that it is the ‘logical subject’.

Kant’s analysis has two positive aspects. For one thing, he sees the impossibility of ontically reducing the “I” to a substance; for another thing, he holds fast to the “I” as ‘I think’. Nevertheless, he takes this “I” as subject again, and he does so in a sense which is ontologically inappropriate. For the ontological concept of the subject characterizes not the Selfhood of the qua Self, but the selfsameness and steadiness of something that is always present-at-Hand. To define the “I” ontologically as “subject” means to regard it as something always present-at-hand. The Being of the “I” is understood as the Reality of the res cogitans. (p. 366-367)

Das »Ich« ist ein bloßes Bewußtsein, das alle Begriffe begleitet. mit ihm wird »Nichts weiter, als ein transzendentales Subjekt der Gedanken vorgestellt«. Das »Bewußtsein an sich (ist) Nicht sowohl eine Vorstellung ..., sondern eine Form derselben überhaupt«. Das »Ich denke« ist »die Form der Apperzeption, die jeder Erfahrung anhängt und ihr vorgeht«.

Kant faßt den phänomenalen Gehalt des »Ich« mit recht in den Ausdruck »Ich denke« oder, wenn die Einbeziehung der »praktischen Person« in die »Intelligenz« mitbeachtet wird, als »Ich handle«. Das Ich-sagen muß im Sinne Kants als Ich-denke-sagen gefaßt Werden. Kant sucht den phänomenalen Gehalt des Ich als res cogitans zu fixieren. Wenn er dabei dieses Ich »logisches Subjekt« nennt, so besagt das nicht, das Ich überhaupt sei ein bloß auf logischem Wege gewonnener Begriff. Das Ich ist vielmehr das Subjekt des logischen Verhaltens, des Verbindens. Das »Ich denke« besagt: Ich verbinde. Alles Verbinden ist »Ich verbinde«. In jedem Zusammennehmen und Beziehen liegt immer schon das Ich zugrunde — υποκείμενον. Daher ist das Subjektum »Bewußtsein an sich« und keine Vorstellung, vielmehr die »Form« derselben. Das will sagen: das Ich denke ist kein Vorgestelltes, sondern die formale Struktur des Vorstellens als solchen, wodurch so etwas Wie Vorgestelltes erst möglich wird. Form der Vorstellung meint weder einen Rahmen noch einen allgemeinen Begriff, sondern das, Was als είδος jedes Vorgestellte und vorstellen zu dem Macht, was es ist. Das Ich, als Form der Vorstellung verstanden, besagt dasselbe wie: es ist »logisches Subjekt«.

Das Positive an der Kantischen Analyse ist ein Doppeltes: einmal sieht er die Unmöglichkeit der ontischen Rückführung des Ich auf eine (320) Substanz, zum Anderen hält er das Ich als »Ich denke« fest. Gleichwohl faßt er dieses Ich wieder als Subjekt und damit in einem ontologisch unangemessenen Sinne. Denn der ontologische Begriff des Subjekts charakterisiert nicht die Selbstheit des Ich qua Selbst, sondern die Selbigkeit und Beständigkeit eines immer schon Vorhandenen. Das Ich ontologisch als Subjekt bestimmen, besagt, es als ein immer schon Vorhandenes ansetzen. Das Sein des Ich wird verstanden als Realität der res cogitans. (p. 319-320)
