Em Ser e tempo é dito que o Dasein ocupa-se essencialmente desse seu próprio Dasein. Ao mesmo tempo este próprio Dasein é determinado como um ser-uns-com-os-outros original. Por isso o Dasein ocupa-se sempre também dos outros. A Analítica do Dasein não tem, pois. absolutamente nada a ver com um solipsismo ou subjetivismo. (...) Já o projeto abrangente do ser-homem como Dasein no sentido ek-stático é ontológico, pelo qual a representação do ser-homem como "subjetividade da consciência" é superada. Este projeto torna visível a compreensão do ser como constituição fundamental do Dasein. A visão disto é necessária para poder discutir a questão da relação do homem como existente com o ser do ente (dos entes que não têm o caráter do Dasein e do próprio ente Dasein). Mas a pergunta citada surge do questionamento pelo sentido do ser em geral.

Mas a Filosofia pergunta, e o faz há muito tempo, pela questão do ser. Já em Parmênides encontramos a sentença: "Pois existe o ser". Também Aristóteles em sua Metafísica coloca a questão do ser. Entretanto, este título hoje tão usado "a questão do ser" oculta uma ambiguidade.

Em que sentido Aristóteles pergunta sobre o ser? Pergunta-se sempre somente pelo ente com referência ao seu ser. Quando eu questiono o ente assim como ente, eu o vejo não em relação ao fato de ele estar simplesmente presente, por exemplo, como uma cadeira, uma mesa ou uma árvore, mas sim como ente: vejo-o, pois em relação a seu ser. Esta é a questão fundamental de toda a Metafísica. Mas há, então, na Filosofia a questão do ser? Para que, então, a questão em Ser e tempo?

Quando pergunto pelo ser das coisas como objetos, pergunto pela objetidade. Para os gregos não há objetos. Eles só aparecem a partir de Descartes. Os gregos designam o ente como o que está presente (das Anwesende), como aquilo que eu já encontro sempre. Os gregos têm a palavra ousia para esta espécie de ser do ente. É o substantivo que pertence ao particípio on. Traduz-se geralmente ousia por substância. Mas ousia em grego não é nenhum conceito filosófico, significa simplesmente: uma quinta, uma fazenda (das Anwesen) ou propriedade (das Anwesen), exatamente no sentido em que ainda hoje chamamos em alemão uma propriedade rural (Bauernhof) de Anwesen. Toda a mudança de sentido escolástica de ousia para substância não tem nada mais a ver com o pensamento grego, o que entretanto, não significa que a Escolástica não possua seu próprio direito.

Para os gregos o que está presente é o que está aí (das Vorliegende). Estar deitado (liegen) significa em grego keimai, O que está aí (das Vorliegende) significa por isso hipokeimenon. Depois os romanos traduziram este hipokeimenon literalmente por subiectum, mas este subiectum nada tem a ver com o sujeito no sentido de "eu". Ainda na Idade Média o termo subiectum é usado para tudo o que esta aí. Um obiectum entretanto, na Idade Média, é um jogado para (Entgegengeworfenes) mas, para quem? Para minha representação, minha repraesentatio. No sentido medieval objeto é o simplesmente representado, por exemplo, uma imaginada montanha dourada, que nem precisa existir de fato; e este livro, que está efetivamente aí na minha frente deveria, em sentido medieval, ser chamado de subiectum. Naturalmente, no fim da Idade Média, fica tudo de cabeça para baixo. Hoje entende-se, normalmente, o eu como sujeito, enquanto o termo objeto é reservado para a designação das coisas ou dos objetos que não tem a ver com o eu. O objetivo no sentido medieval, isto é, o que é jogado para mim somente na minha representação e apenas por ela, é, ao contrário, o ''subjetivo", só o representado e não-real de acordo com o uso moderno da língua.

Trata-se aqui só de uma mudança do uso da linguagem? Não. Trata-se de algo inteiramente diferente. Nada menos do que uma mudança radical da posição do homem diante do ente.

O fato de essa mudança da compreensão do ser ter acontecido é premissa para que hoje existamos num mundo cientificamente técnico. Nietzsche disse: "Pensamentos que chegam em pés de pombo conduzem o mundo". Para aquilo que Nietzsche fala aqui, o homem moderno perdeu o ouvido. Só se ouve ainda o que faz barulho, assim como só se julga como ente o que faz efeito e tem utilidade. (p. 142-144)

In Being and Time it is said that Da-sein is essentially an issue for itself. At the same time, this Da-Sein is defined as originary being-with-one-another. Therefore, Da-sein is also always concerned with others. Thus, the analytic of Da-sein has nothing whatsoever to do with solipsism or subjectivism. But Binswanger’s misunderstanding consists Not so much of the fact that he wants to supplement “care” with love, but that he does not see that care has an existential, that is, ontological sense. Therefore, the analytic of Da-sein asks for Dasein’s basic ontological (existential) constitution (Verfassung) and does not wish to give a mere description of the ontic phenomena of Dasein. The all-determining projection of being human as ecstatic Dasein is already ontological so that the idea of the human being as “subjectivity of consciousness” is overcome. This projection renders manifest the understanding of being as the basic constitution of Dasein. It is necessary to look at it in order even to discuss the question of the relationship of the human being as existing to the being of beings (of the non-human being and of existing Da-sein itself). But this question is a result of the question of the meaning of being in general.

But philosophy asks about being and has already asked about being for a long time. Indeed, in Parmenides we can already read the proposition: “For, there is being.” In his Metaphysics, Aristotle also asked the question of being. Thus, the question of being has been asked since ancient times. Yet in the very phrase “the question of being,” used so often nowadays, a hidden ambiguity lies.

But in what sense does Aristotle ask about being? In such a way that the question is only about beings and their being. If I ask the question about being as being, then I do not consider being as to whether it exists as a chair, a table, or a tree. Rather, I consider “being as being.” Therefore, I pay attention to it regarding its being. This is the basic question of all metaphysics. Therefore, is it not true that philosophy asked the question of being? Therefore, the question of being is asked in philosophy. Why should the question still have to be raised in Being and Time?

(117) When I ask about the being of things as objects, I ask about objectivity. For the Greeks, there were no “objects” (in the modern sense). Objects” were only possible after Descartes. The Greeks called being what is present-at-Hand, what lies in front, and what I always already encounter. The Greeks used the term ονσια for that kind of being of beings. It is the noun derived from the participle ov (being). Ουσία is usually translated as substance. But in the first instance the Greek ουσία is not a philosophical concept at all. It simply means what is present, exactly in the sense we can still use the term Anwesen (what is present) in German today for a farmhouse. The reinterpretation of ουσία as substance by medieval scholasticism  has nothing to do with Greek thought, but this does not mean that scholasticism lacks its own rightful place.

For the Greeks, what comes to presence (das Anwesende) is what lies there beforehand. In Greek “to lie” means κεισθαι. Therefore, what lies-in front (das Vorliegende) is called υποκείμενον (underlying, substrate). The Romans translated υποκείμενον literally as subjectum, but in the first instance this subjectum has nothing to do with the subject in the sense of an “I” (Ego). Still, in the Middle Ages, the term subjectum Was used for everything that lies-in front (Vorliegende). Conversely, in the Middle Ages, an objectum was “something thrown over against” (Entgegengeworfenes), but over against whom? Over against my representation (Vorstehen), my repraesentatio. In the medieval sense, an object is what is merely represented, for instance, an imagined golden mountain that does not actually exist as does the real book here in front of me, called a subjectum in the Middle Ages. Finally, at the end of the Middle Ages, all this was turned upside down. Nowadays, a subject is usually understood as an “I,” whereas the term “object” is reserved for naming “objects” — things without an ego. What was “objective” in the medieval sense, that is, what is “thrown against” me by my representation, and only by it, is the “subjective,” the merely represented, and therefore the un-real according to present linguistic usage.

Here, are we dealing merely with a change in linguistic usage? No. Here, something very different is at play — nothing less than a radical transformation (Wandel) of the human being’s (historical) position toward being.

This transformation, occurring in the understanding of being, is the presupposition for the fact that nowadays we live in a scientific, technological world. Nietzsche once said: “Thoughts, which come (118) on the feet of doves, guide the world.” People of today have largely given up listening to what Nietzsche is talking about here. Just as one only listens to what makes noise, so one only counts as being what works and leads to a practical, useful result. (p. 116-118)

In »Sein und Zeit« wird gesagt, daß es dem Dasein wesensmäßig um dieses sein Dasein selbst geht. Gleichzeitig wird dieses Dasein Selbst als ein ursprüngliches Miteinandersein bestimmt. Darum geht es dem Dasein immer auch um die Anderen. Die Daseinsanalytik hat also Nicht das Geringste mit einem Solipsismus oder Subjektivismus zu tim. Aber das Mißverständnis von Binswanger besteht nicht so sehr darin, daß er »die Sorge« durch die Liebe ergänzen will, sondern darin, daß er nicht sieht, daß die Sorge einen existenzialen, das heißt ontologischen Sinn hat, daß mithin die Analytik des Daseins nach dessen ontologischer (existenzialer) Grundverfassung frägt und keine bloße Beschreibung ontischer Daseinsphänomene geben will. Schon der alles bestimmende Entwurf des Menschseins als Dasein im ekstatischen Sinne ist ein ontologischer, durch den die Vorstellung des Menschseins als Subjektivität des Bewußtseins« überwunden wird. Dieser Entwurf Macht als die Grundverfassung des Daseins das Seinsverständnis sichtbar. Der Blick auf dieses ist jedoch notwendig, um überhaupt die Frage erörtern zu können, in welchem Verhältnis der Mensch als existierender zum Sein des Seienden (des nicht daseinsmäßigen und des seienden Daseins selbst) steht. Die soeben genannte Frage aber ergibt sich aus der Fragestellung nach dem Sinn von Sein überhaupt.

Aber die Philosophie fragt doch und frag schon lange nach dem Sein. Allerdings, schon bei Parmenides steht der Satz: »es gibt nämlich Sein«. Auch Aristoteles stellt in seiner »Metaphysik« die Frage nach dem Sein. Die Seinsfrage wird demnach von alters her gefragt. Allein, in diesem heute viel gebrauchten Titel »Seinsfrage« verbirgt sich eine Zweideutigkeit.

In welchem Sinne aber fragt Aristoteles nach dem Sein? In der Weise, daß immer nur nach dem Seienden hinsichtlich seines Seins gefragt wird. Wenn Ich das Seiende so als Seiendes befrage, dann bedenke ich das Seiende nicht im Hinblick darauf, ob es zum Beispiel als ein Stuhl oder als ein Tisch oder als ein Baum Vorhanden ist, sondern ich achte auf das Seiende als das Seiende, beachte es somit hinsichtlich seines Seins. Dies ist die Grundfrage aller Metaphysik. Also wird in der Philosophie doch nach dem Sein gefragt? Was soll dann noch die Frage in »Sein und Zeit«?

Wenn ich nach dem Sein der Dinge als Gegenstände frage, frage ich nach der Gegenständlichkeit. Bei den Griechen gibt es keine Gegenstände. Gegenstände gibt es erst seit Descartes. Die Griechen bezeichnen das Seiende als das Anwesende, als das Vorliegende, als das, was ich immer schon antreffe. Die Griechen Haben für diese Art von Sein des Seienden das Wort ουσία. Es ist das Substantivum, das zum Partizip όν gehört, ούσία übersetzt Man gewöhnlich mit Substanz, ούσία ist jedoch griechisch Zunächst gar kein philosophischer Begriff, sondern heißt einfach: das Anwesen, genau in dem Sinne, Wie Wir auch heute noch im Deutschen für einen Bauernhof »Anwesen« sagen können. Die Ganze scholastische Umdeutung von ούσία in Substanz hat mit dem griechischen denken Nichts mehr zu Tun, was indessen nicht heißen soll, daß die Scholastik nicht ihr eigenes recht besitze.

(152) Für die Griechen ist das Anwesende das Vorliegende. liegen heißt griechisch κεισθαι. Das Vorliegende heißt deshalb υποκείμενον. Die Römer übersetzten dann dieses υποκείμενον wörtlich mit subiectum, aber dieses subiectum hat zunächst mit dem Subjekt im Sinne eines »Ich« nichts zu tun. Noch im Mittelalter wird der Name subiectum für alles Vorliegende gebraucht. Ein obiec-tum dagegen ist im Mittelalter ein Entgegengeworfenes, aber wem entgegen? Meinem vorstellen, meiner repraesentatio. Objekt im mittelalterlichen Sinne ist das bloß Vorgestellte, zum Beispiel ein gedachter goldener Berg, der gar nicht faktisch Existieren muß, so wie etwa dieses Hier wirklich vorliegende Buch vor mir, das mittelalterlich ein subiectum genannt Werden müßte. Ende des Mittelalters wird dann freilich alles auf den Kopf gestellt. Heute versteht man für gewöhnlich unter Subjekt das Ich, während der Name Objekt für die Bezeichnung der nicht lebhaften Dinge oder der Gegenstände Vorbehalten wird. Das im mittelalterlichen Sinne Objektive, das heißt das nur in meinem Vorstellen und durch dieses allein mir Entgegengeworfene, ist dagegen nach dem heutigen Sprachgebrauch das »Subjektive^ bloß Vorgestellte und Nicht- Wirkliche.

Handelt es sich hier nur um eine Änderung des Sprachgebrauchs? Nein. Ganz anderes ist im Spiel. Nichts Geringeres als eine radikale Wandlung der Stellung des Menschen zum Seienden.

Daß dieser Wandel des Seinsverständnisses geschah, ist die Voraussetzung dafür, daß wir heute in einer wissenschaftlich technisierten Welt existieren. Nietzsche sagte einmal: »Gedanken, die mit Taubenfüssen kommen, lenken die Welt.« Für das, was Nietzsche hier nennt, haben die heutigen Menschen weithin das Gehör verloren. Man hört nur noch, was Lärm macht, so wie man nur noch das für seiend hält, was wirkt und einen Nutzen einbringt. (150-152)
