===== GA5:7-8 – TRADUÇÃO LATINA DO GREGO =====

Estas denominações [τό υποκείμενον e τα συμβεβηκότα] não são arbitrárias. Nelas fala aquilo que aqui já não se pode mostrar, a experiência grega fundamental do ser do ente no sentido da presença (Anwesenheit). Mas, mediante estas determinações, é fundamentada a concepção, desde então tornada canônica, da coisidade das coisas, implantando-se a concepção ocidental do ser do ente. Ela começa com a recepção das palavras gregas no pensamento romano-latino. υποκείμενον torna-se [GA5: 13] subiectum, ύπόστασις torna-se substantia; συμβεβηκός torna-se accidens. A tradução dos nomes gregos para a língua latina não é, de modo nenhum, um acontecimento sem consequências, como ainda nos nossos dias se julga ser. Pelo contrário: atrás da tradução (Übersetzung) aparentemente literal e, portanto, que preserva (o sentido), encobre-se um transpor (Übersetzen) da experiência grega para (15) um outro modo de pensar. O pensamento romano toma posse das palavras gregas sem uma experiência igualmente originária que corresponda àquilo que elas dizem, sem a palavra grega. O desterro  do pensamento ocidental começa com esta tradução. (p. 15-16)

Ces appellations [τό υποκείμενον et τα συμβεβηκότα] ne sont pas des noms quelconques. En elles parle, plus besoin ici de le faire voir, l’entente essentiellement grecque de l’être de l’étant en général – de la présence. Ce sont des déterminations qui ont fondé l’interprétation désormais décisive de la choséité de la chose et l’interprétation occidentale de l’être de l’étant. Elle commence avec la reprise des mots grecs dans la pensée romano-latine. Ὑποκείμενον devient subjectum ; ὑπόστασις, substantia ; συμβεβηκός vire en accidens. Mais il est bien vrai que cette traduction des termes grecs en langue latine n’est nullement ce petit événement inoffensif pour lequel on le prend encore de nos jours. Cette traduction apparemment littérale (et par là apparemment sauvegardante) est bien une véritable tra-duction, un transfert de l’expérience grecque en un autre univers de pensée. La pensée romaine reprend les mots grecs, sans l’expérience originale correspondant à ce qu’ils disent, sans la parole grecque. C’est avec cette traduction que s’ouvre, sous la pensée occidentale, le vide qui la prive désormais de tout fondement. (p. 20-21)

These designations are by no means arbitrary. Within them speaks something which lies beyond the scope of this essay: the Greeks’ fundamental experience of the being of beings in the sense of presence. It is through these determinations, however, that the interpretation of the thingness of the thing is grounded that will henceforth become standard and the Western interpretation of the being of beings established. The process begins with the appropriation of the Greek words by Roman-Latin thought; ύποκείμενον becomes subiectum, ύπόστασις substantia, and συμβεβηκός accidens. This translation of Greek names into Latin is by no means without consequences — as, even now, it is still held to be. Rather, what is concealed within the apparently literal, and hence faithful, translation is a trans-lation (Übersetzen) of Greek experience into a different mode of thinking. Roman thinking takes over the Greek words without the corresponding and equiprimordial experience of what they say, without the Greek word. The rootlessness of Western thinking begins with this translation. (p. 5)

Diese Benennungen [τό υποκείμενον und τα συμβεβηκότα] sind keine beliebigen Namen. In ihnen spricht, Was Hier nicht mehr zu zeigen ist, die griechische Grunderfahrung des Seins des Seienden im Sinne der Anwesenheit. Durch diese Bestimmungen aber wird die fortan maßgebende Auslegung der Dingheit des Dinges gegründet und die abendländische Auslegung des Seins des Seienden festgelegt. Sie beginnt mit der Übernahme der griechischen Wörter in das römisch-lateinische denken, υποκείμενον wird zu (8) subiectum; ύπόστασις wird zu substantia; συμβεβηκός wird zu accidens. Diese Übersetzung der griechischen Namen in die lateinische Sprache ist keineswegs der folgenlose Vorgang, für den er noch heutigentags gehalten wird. Vielmehr verbirgt sich hinter der anscheinend wörtlichen und somit bewahrenden Übersetzung ein übersetzen griechischer Erfahrung in eine Andere Denkungsart. Das römische Denken übernimmt die griechischen Wörter ohne die entsprechende gleichursprüngliche Erfahrung dessen, was sie sagen, ohne das griechische Wort. Die Bodenlosigkeit des abendländischen Denkens beginnt mit diesem Übersetzen. (p. 7-8)
